Purchasing Info

To purchase a painting, email me at jeward@shasta.com and include your phone number and snail mail address (and shipping address). I will call you back to make arrangements. I accept checks or money orders. I will ship you the painting when your check clears.

Shipping Info

Paintings are unframed, wrapped in bubble wrap, enclosed in a cardboard shipping container, and mailed insured by USPS. I charge a flat rate of $9.00 for shipping/handling if you’re in the continental U.S. Otherwise, I’ll email you about costs.

Gift Certificates

Want a special painting for that special person but don’t know what they’d like? Email me at jeward@shasta.com with your phone number, snail mail and email addresses, the name and address of the gift recipient, and any message. After payment is completed, I will email or snail mail you or the recipient the gift certificate.

Oil painting is of the body. It is tactile, viscous, tangible ... like the earth. And yet it can drift into myriad particles of light—the luminosity that wells out of inner space. I work from photos I’ve taken, but primarily, as with my watercolors, I paint from my inner vision of the scene, whether it’s landscape or floral. Some of my paintings have a lot of heavy palette-knife effects. Some are soft and filmy, like a patina of light. I use makeup sponges for blending to get this effect. Though I paint quickly, in an elevated state of inspiration and joy, a painting can take months, as I work to get the feeling and color right. I love the whole process.

My Materials

I use artist-quality oil paints (usually Winsor Newton) and galkyd medium (a polymer), which speeds drying time and also makes a wonderful varnish. My canvas is natural cotton duck triple primed with acid-free acrylic gesso and stretched on solid wood stretcher bars that are ¾ inch in depth. I use a narrow stretcher bar so you can easily put your painting in a frame of your choice (even a suitable watercolor frame can be good). This means you can frame affordably yourself.
